Year 1 Number Overview Assessment – DIY Tutoring Support
This Year 1 Number Overview Assessment has been designed to support DIY tutoring at home by giving parents a clear snapshot of their child’s understanding across the Year 1 Number strand of the Australian Curriculum.
The assessment covers key number concepts including:
- Recognising, representing and ordering numbers to at least 120
- Place value and partitioning one- and two-digit numbers
- Counting collections using groups and skip counting
- Addition and subtraction within 20
- Real-life addition and subtraction problem solving, including simple money situations
- Equal sharing and grouping
Tasks encourage children to show their thinking using drawings, objects, number sentences and simple strategies, rather than relying only on memorised answers. This makes it easier for parents to see what their child understands and where additional support may be needed.
Ideal for:
- Home practice and revision
- Identifying gaps in understanding
- Building confidence with early number concepts
- Supporting ongoing DIY tutoring at home
This resource works well as a check-in or review assessment and can be revisited throughout the year to monitor progress and celebrate growing confidence with number.
